The Department of 历史 offers the Bachelor of 艺术 degree in 历史, as well as the Bachelor of 艺术 degree in 历史 that includes licensure to teach social studies on the secondary level in Virginia. We also have the M.A. 历史学学位. And finally, we offer an accelerated program that allows students to earn both the B.A. 和M.A. in a five year period.
The Department of 历史 offers a Bachelor of 艺术 in 历史 as well as a state-approved Bachelor of 艺术 in 历史 and Social Science that prepares students to teach in secondary schools. Both of these offer a broad introduction to the history of the world's peoples and civilizations. Students who major in history are required to choose courses in three of the four following areas: 1) United States, 2)欧洲, 3)区域研究, 4) Comparative 历史. After introductory survey courses, students enroll in a Historical Methods course that provides an introduction to the basic methodologies and perspectives in history. In their senior year they enroll in a capstone course that includes intensive writing and combines the investigation of a particular area or theme from the perspective of different theoretical frameworks.
Advising takes place for a roughly two-week period toward the conclusion of each semester. You will receive a note from the Department of 历史 encouraging you to make arrangements to meet your advisor, in order to discuss your program and plans for the upcoming semester.
